The final form of the 02R front end
Equipping the hood with a duct would completely change the airflow from the radiator,
and to get closer to the driving feel of the final model,
it was also necessary to reproduce the aerodynamics,
so we decided to create a flat bottom with an undercover, just like the stock 02R.
- Front under cover. There was an aftermarket FRP product of the same shape, but the price difference between this and the genuine product was small, so I bought the genuine product without hesitation.
- Rear under bar. Made of aluminum with no surface treatment.
- Radiator drain plate (74116-SL0-Z10). This is simply an aluminum plate with holes, so it looks like it could be made by hand.

- Radiator ducts for models other than the NSX-R cover the member, but the underpanel cannot be fixed unless the member is exposed, so cut off the unnecessary parts with a sander, etc. It is also possible to purchase the radiator duct for the 02R (74147-SL0-Z10), but since a pre-processed one was also fine for practical use, we decided to use it to keep costs down.
- The installation state before processing the radiator duct. The overlapping part of the front under cover and rear under cover needs to be fixed directly to the member, so the part covering the duct member gets in the way.
- The radiator duct is installed after processing. The part behind the step was cut away, exposing the member.

After processing the front member
- Five nut rivets were attached to the front member.
The hole at the rear of the undercover, which appeared to be for accessing the bolt that secures the battery set, seemed like it could serve as a reference for positioning.
The undercover was temporarily held in place so that the bolt's center aligned with the hole, and in that position, the location for drilling the hole in the frame was marked.
The genuine fixing bolt is M6, but I used M5 nut rivets to allow for minor adjustments in the worst case scenario. The rivets are made of aluminum.
After battery set processing
- Six nut rivets were installed on the battery set. As with the holes in the member, the pitch was calculated accurately based on the position at the rear of the underpanel (the hole drilling position is as shown in Photo 09 ). The nut rivets were also made of M5 aluminum, just like the members. The weld bead between the frame and the base protruded more than expected, so I used a sander to level it.
- Attach the under cover using the holes with the rivets. The pitch of the battery set hole drilling is 60mm → 319mm → 319mm from the front side, with the front end of the battery set as zero.
- The member part is fixed with bolts by placing the front under cover over the rear under cover. I had also purchased genuine M6 bolts, but since I ended up using M5 nut rivets, I opted to use M5 bolts and large flat washers I already had.
- In addition to the points where the nuts and rivets are attached, the rear underpanel needs to have holes drilled in the monocoque itself in two places on both sides (Photo 11 ) and four places on the rear end (Photo 12 ).
Since the six mounting points on the battery set seemed sufficient for securing it, I temporarily held off on drilling holes in the monocoque.
However, it seems like both sides of the rear section appears to be sagging a little,
so I plan to address that eventually.

The battery set is also a genuine 02R part.
- Battery set for 02R (60510-SL0-Z10). The supply of parts for 02R was getting shaky, and I was interested in seeing the actual construction, so I decided to order it (after repeated delivery delays, it arrived a year and a half after I ordered it). There are two versions, Z10 and Z30. Z30 appears to be for cold climates, possibly featuring a larger battery tray or base.
- When we measured the dimensions of the underpanel mounting part, the pitch was 319mm, which was the same as measured by the hole in the panel, but the starting point on the front side was 62mm, a difference of 2mm (this means that the center of the service hole and the bolt at the rear of the OEM undercover was offset by 2mm...).
- When I tried to install the air shroud, I was initially unsure of its mounting location on the battery set, but after confirming the exact dimensions, it became obvious.

Be careful of hose interference
If you try to install a radiator duct for the 02R on a car other than the 02R, the radiator hose and duct will interfere with each other (the radiator hose for the 02R is shaped to avoid the radiator duct). Not wanting to cut the valuable radiator duct. For now, I decided to use a second-hand duct that was already notched for clearance. I plan to replace it with a new one when I eventually replace the radiator hose. The corresponding hose, "Hose, Front Water Lower (19502-PBY-R00)", was purchased in 2016 and is in stock (it cost 3,760 yen at the time).
