Refreshing a damaged sun visor

Sun visors that have not been replaced since the car was new usually have aged and shrunk, causing the seams to split and exposing the urethane inside. My car had damage on both sides. I didn't like the early model's gray, old-fashioned lining, so when I replaced the sun visors, I wanted to replace them with the 02R's genuine black fabric. 02R parts may be discontinued due to integration, and the cost of parts is increasing every year, so I decided to replace all the linings with 02R specifications while replacing the sun visors. Roof linings are expensive, so it was a difficult decision to make, but over a 10-year period, the price has risen significantly, so I'm glad I did it early. As for roof linings, they were 48,800 yen in October 2014, but will be 104,800 yen in April 2025, an increase of 56,000 yen, more than double the price.

There are many types of sun visors

There are various types of sun visors. There are three types for the driver's side: one where the card holder band is on the inside of the car when closed (83230-SL0-010ZA), one where the band is on the roof side when closed and is hidden (83230-SL0-J01ZA), and one with an airbag warning label (83230-SL0-Z10ZA). The one with the airbag warning label is also available for the NSX and TypeS as the part number "83230-SL0-J01ZA", but I don't know what the difference is between this and the one for the NSX-R. The steering wheel has already been replaced with an aftermarket part and there is no airbag, so I chose the 83230-SL0-J01ZA without a warning label and with the band hidden when closed. For the passenger side, in addition to the two types with airbag warning labels (83280-SL0-J01ZA and 83280-SL0-Z10ZA), there is also a plain one without a label (83280-SL0-Z00ZA) for the NSX-R only, and one with a mirror (83280-SL0-010ZA) for the Type S only. I didn't need a mirror, so I chose the one without a label for the NSX-R (83280-SL0-Z00ZA).

It looks good with a unified black theme

1. The absence of the warning label on the driver's side sun visor gives a much cleaner look.
   On early-model NSX vehicles, the catalytic converter was equipped with a temperature sensor, and a warning label was affixed to the visor.
   However, since heat-resistance inspections for fuel-injected vehicles have been abolished, even classic cars are not required to have exhaust temperature warnings or labels.
   Additionally, the interior light assembly in early models had a gray plastic section, which did not match the black-themed interior, so I replaced it with the later model (34250-SL4-003ZL) which uses black plastic.
   
   Incidentally, if you insert a blind bolt in its place, you can remove the catalyst temperature sensor and still pass inspection. Also, since the NSX's exhaust temperature sensor does not affect engine control, there is no problem if you remove it (I have removed it too).

Black fabric interior for 02R

1. The sun visor I installed is the 02R sun visor type (83230-SL0-Z00ZA) with a card holder band on the back (roof side when closed). There was also a type (83230-SL0-010ZA) with a card holder band on the front (inside the cabin when closed), but since production has now ended, this is the only type without a warning label. The passenger side is equipped with a non-label sun visor (83280-SL0-Z00ZA) exclusive to the NSX-R. For the Type S, there is a type with a mirror (83280-SL0-010ZA). The visor includes only one bolt to secure its base. While the bolt size matches the early model, the original bolt on my NSX was silver, so I bought a later model black version: 93500-050160G.

The seat belt guide part remains the same as the previous model.

1. The guide part that attaches to the seat belt hole of the rear pillar garnish is integrated with the seat belt and cannot be removed from the seat belt. For early model seat belts, the guide is gray, the same color as the early model interior, which makes it look unsightly, but the guide is not sold separately, and it would be cost-prohibitive to replace the seat belt with a new one for the later model, so I decided not to buy it at the time, but before I knew it, the seat belt had become a discontinued part, so I ended up not being able to buy it.

Choose the one for 02R

The plastic part of the side garnish has cracked due to hardening caused by aging, so I'm considering replacing it with a new one. The inside of the driver's side, which is where you put your hands when getting in and out, was particularly cracked. I didn't like the one for the coupe because it was too shiny, so I bought the one for the NSX-R, which has less shine.

At the time of the exchange, there were three types available: Coupe, Type S, and 02R, but the Coupe ones have been consolidated into Type S ones, and production of the 02R ones will end in December 2023, so currently only the consolidated part number for the former Type S can be purchased. I happened to choose one for the NSX-R, but when I think about the fact that it's now a valuable item that has been discontinued, I don't feel like I want to bother with it too much when getting in and out of the car.

1. After installation. There is no discomfort at all. I didn't know that it had been discontinued and had become a rare part. It is no longer available for purchase, so I will use it carefully.
