The coveted Alcantara

Ever since I bought the NSX, I've been longing for the Alcantara interior of the 92R, and have always wanted to have it replaced, but the fact that I had to bring in large items like the dashboard was a problem, so I kept putting it off. When I saw the original interior, which had taken on a cheap sheen due to aging, I finally decided to do it, and I managed to find a good shop in a nearby prefecture, so I decided to ask them to do it. Ultrasuede 5778 Charcoal

The fabric used for the replacement is Ultrasuede, the successor to Exaine. I wanted the color of the fabric to be close to the original 92R, but the color changes significantly depending on the light,
so it was difficult to judge from a flat sample. I was torn between "5709 Black Onyx" and "5778 Charcoal," but after hearing the advice that "Charcoal is a slightly more adventurous, bright color," I decided on the darker "5709 Black Onyx." The stitching is, of course, red.

Dashboard and Parts Replaced with Ultrasuede

1. The completed interior was picked up at A-LUCO-DESIGN. We took a commemorative photo in the workshop before loading it into the car (*). Depending on the lighting, the photo may appear grayer than expected, making it difficult to use as a reference for the color, but the color in this photo seems closer to how it actually looks. It 's hard to put into words, but it's completely different from before the replacement, and it just looks so cool. I can't wait to take it home and install it in my car. *Permission has been granted to publish this on the web. By the way, the vehicle used for delivery and pickup was a Freed (GB3). We were able to load it without any problems with the third row seats and the second row right seat folded down.

1. The genuine 92R stitching is red for the lines above the meter panel and glove box, and black for the sides of the part connecting the shifter to the console box, but this time I prioritized my personal preference,
   and made all the stitching red.Also , the genuine console box cover for the 92R is a special product covered in genuine leather (common to Type S and S-ZERO), but this time I replaced it with Ultrasuede.
2. The original 92R door panels have black stitching below the armrest, but we changed all of the stitching to red, just like the dashboard.The original armrests fitted to the 92R are covered in matte genuine leather (common to the 110 model and later), which is different from the early models, but this time we replaced it with ultra suede.
3. The original center pad for the 92R is made of the same fabric as the door panel itself, but this time we used a perforated fabric.

After installing the dashboard

1. I couldn't wait until the weekend, so I installed just the dashboard in the middle of the night. It has the look I was hoping for, and it looks really cool. The fabric looks grayish and the red stitching looks lighter under certain lighting,
   However, in reality, both appear much darker.

Installation complete

1. The contrast with the red of the 02R's factory carpet, which was also replaced at the same time, is fantastic, giving the car a truly luxurious feel. However, I began to feel a sense of incongruity with the non-genuine parts, such as the black console panel and NARDI steering wheel.

The door panel garnish, which is attached to the outer periphery of the door panel in three sections on each side, inevitably loses its mounting brackets over time. On my vehicle, more than half of the brackets were damaged, so I decided to replace them with new ones when I had the door panel repainted.

MITA sells replacement parts with reinforced stays, but at the time of purchase, the genuine parts were cheaper, so I bought them. However, due to a subsequent increase in the price of genuine parts, the prices have reversed and the genuine parts are now more expensive, so I think purchasing a replacement part would be a good idea now.

Speaker lid for 92R

1. There are speaker lids specifically for the 92R, so I replaced them with the 92R ones to match the new fabric. It wasn't that I was dissatisfied with the ones for the Coupe, but I decided to take this opportunity to replace them because I thought it would be difficult to obtain NSX-R parts in the future.
2. Comparing it to the Coupe version, the Coupe version has a coarse mesh-like fabric that allows the backside to be seen through, while the 92R version has a fabric similar to Alcantara, and the backside is almost opaque.
3. When actually installed, it looks a little lighter in color than the Ultrasuede (5709 Black Onyx) on the door panels. I'm satisfied that it's for the 92R, but I think the Coupe version has a sportier design.

Coupe speaker lid weight: 123.4g

1. Thinking that the NSX-R version might be lighter, I decided to compare the weights. First, I measured the weight of the coupe version, which came out at 123.4g.

1. Next, I measured the 92R version, and the result was 124.4g. It is unclear whether this is due to a difference in the weight of the fabric or whether this is just individual differences, but the 92R version was about 1g heavier, which was disappointing.

The sash holder garnish for the 92R is the same as that for the coupe, but a matte finish is available exclusively for the 02R. Since a matte finish suits the Ultrasuede fabric better, I decided to replace it with the genuine part for the 02R.

Some of the clips that attach to the sash holders had broken tabs, so I bought new ones. I made a mistake and the photo shows eight pieces, but in reality you need three on each side of the front and two on each side of the rear, for a total of ten pieces.

1. When comparing the removed coupe garnish with the 02R garnish, the 02R garnish also appears to have a leather-like pattern, so it appears that the same part has simply been painted matte black.

1. When combined with Ultrasuede, the garnishes for models other than the 02R are too shiny and stand out, so I think the matte finish for the 02R is a better fit.

35300-SL0-N12ZA Switch Assembly, TCS (Dummy)

1. The TRC has been completely removed, including the unit behind the passenger seat, the throttle motor, and all related wiring, but the switch on the meter inner visor had been removed, leaving a hole. I considered smoothing the visor itself, but decided to take the opportunity to install the dummy switch found on the NSX-R. It is just the plastic frame of a regular TCS switch, and the switch is integrated, so it cannot be pressed. I forgot to measure the weight, but it definitely feels lighter than the original switch when held in my hand, so I believe it has a weight-saving effect. When attached to the meter inner visor, it is in the same position as when a regular TCS switch is pressed.
